A Good Night’s Sleep

I thought perhaps I might start posting some of my fanfics here. They are all up on AO3, but maybe I will add them here as well.

This one is a tiny little snippet of soft fluffiness. The Doctor and Yaz spend their first night on the TARDIS together after The Vanquishers, where everything they have been through catches up with them, but they find peace in each other’s company. Plus a bit of Yaz gay panicking which I think is possibly a contractual requirement in everything I write.

A Good Night’s Sleep

Yaz sat on her bed, trembling. She wasn’t sure if Dan had burst in at the right or wrong moment, but her brain had used the opportunity to pull her from a situation for which she had been secretly wishing for 3 years. Her consciousness had no input as she rushed off to usher Dan in the right direction towards the bedrooms. It hadn’t helped her that he appeared to have noticed that he’d interrupted something and spent the whole of the walk apologising profusely whilst she tried to shrug it off as not important.

Yaz’s Costume in Every Episode: S13 and Specials

And now… the end is near… and so I face… the final curtain…

Oh dear, no no no! There is no end, 13’s era will continue forever, I am not acknowledging any suggestions otherwise…

So let’s crack on.

In S11, Yaz favoured those cosy, space-themed jumpers. In S12 this developed into a preference for patterned shirts (particularly floral patterns). The leather jacket has been standard throughout both series. It’s time to find out how her style develops through S13.

Yaz’s Theme: S13 (and specials)

Disclaimer: I finished this suffering from Covid – I accept no responsibility for mistakes and random feverish wildness that might have snuck in…

I have been gearing myself up for this – I know I will not make it through to the end unscathed. Basically Thasmin has broken me. I might as well give everything else up now and accept my destiny.

So you remember how in S11 the majority of instances of Yaz’s theme occurred earlier in the season, illustrating how she was at the beginning of her journey? And in S12 the majority were towards the end of the season to show how her journey was starting to become inextricably linked with her feelings for the Doctor?

Welcome to S13 where Yaz’s theme occurs at least once in EVERY SINGLE EPISODE! This season is truly glorious in so many ways, but finally having the time devoted to Yaz and the intentional development of Thasmin is simply beyond words. And of course the music provides a beautiful melodic companion to the writing and acting.

Yaz’s Theme: Series 12

In Series 11, Yaz’s theme featured more frequently in the earlier episodes of the series. In Series 12, it is mostly found in the later episodes of the series. Make of that what you will, I draw my own conclusions at the end of this post (just wait for S13!!)

So we established in the last post how Yaz’s theme is a metaphor for her journey – two phrases with the second ending on a fourth, which does not give closure. I am currently hoping against hope that this is not going to reflect whatever ending she gets in the Centenary story. I am living in sweet denial that the ending will ever come because it is already breaking me beyond repair.

Yaz’s Theme: S11

As a musical person, I tend to notice the music in film and tv. And when I binged the entirety of Series 1-10 in an alarmingly short space of time, I was ready to scour Murray Gold out of my brain. Lovely as his music is, it is a bit like eating chocolate brownies – it is very rich and sickly and too much of it makes my ears fall off. OK perhaps not that last part. But yeesh I needed something fresh, and that’s what Segun Akinola brought.

He has given us music which balances atmosphere and emotion, themes and tension building restraint. I find it a breath of fresh air which is the perfect enhancement to the beautiful visuals and fascinating stories of S11 onwards.

Yaz’s Hair in Every Episode: S13 (and specials)

S11 hair was loose and relatively simple showing Yaz at the beginning of her journey to discover herself with the Doctor.

S12 saw the introduction of tighter, more controlled and complex styles showing how her confidence and her knowledge of herself had grown.

What will S13 tell us? It’s a very different journey, so hop on for the ride.

Yaz’s Hair in Every Episode: S12

This post is in honour of Jodie’s 40th birthday – HAPPY INTERNATIONAL JODIE DAY to the best, most amazing, most awesome person on the planet who gave me a reason to keep going when times were too dark.

So, Series 12 Yaz hair!

After the revelations of S11 and Yaz beginning to develop her confidence and independence and sense of self, how will S12 move things along?

S11 was filled with a sense of hope and discovery. S12 involves discoveries of a different kind and the tone becomes darker and inevitably more angst-ridden.

Will this be reflected in Yaz’s hair? I am so excited about some of the styles we have to come this season, plus we get BONUS HAT-YAZ!

So let’s wait no more and launch in!
