Yaz’s Earrings in Every Episode: S13 (and specials)

We had a S11 earring look: Left – stud, flower; Right – stud, hoop, hoop, stud, stud, lightning bolt. Plus the bee necklace on a couple of occasions.

We had a S12 earring look: Left – stud, flower; Right – stud, stud, hoop, stud, stud, lighting bolt UNTIL Can You Hear Me, when the left earrings were deliberately swapped signifying how Yaz was changing. We got the return of the bee necklace, and in Revolution we finally got introduced to the Y and Z necklaces(of COURSE there is bonus necklace content in this post as well!)

So what excitement is to come from S13? Hold on to your horses, let’s get going!

Yaz’s Earrings in Every Episode: S12

We established there was a S11 earring look which did not change at all (aside from that momentary change at the end of Arachnids which is totally not just a continuity error…). Before we even begin the adventure into S12 we know this won’t be the same because we have the excitement of historical episodes in period dress to come! Dangly earrings ahoy!

Yaz’s earrings in every episode: S11

I’ve never been one to turn down a challenge (that’s an absolute bare-faced lie, but it sounds great at the start of this blog post), so having extensively catalogued all of Yaz’s footwear in every episode, a brief discussion on Twitter has prompted me to write a follow-up, in-depth analysis of Yaz’s earrings in every episode. I thought everyone had paid the same close attention to every single apparently insignificant detail of every episode, but I may be wrong in that assumption.

You know this is the good stuff you come here for, right?

Thasmin: S11 The Tsuranga Conundrum

Thasmin was an integral part of my viewing by now. I never imagined for a moment it would be an actual thing, I assumed it would just be moments where those of us who wanted to interpret it that way could do so. It is incredible to reach this point and see that Chris Chibnall was seeing what we were seeing and decided to go with the slowest and most amazing slow burn of all time.

On with the show. Note the Doctor shrugging off the physical contact from other people.

Ectospleen pain – Yaz is concerned.

The Doctor’s Guide to Love

(Many thanks to Doctor They and That-fried-egg-sammie-you-asked-for for their valuable contributions to this!)

After a few thousand years of experience, I think I am in a great place to offer some words of wisdom to the rest of the universe on matters of love. I have quite a way with the ladies, if I do say so myself, so I am here today to impart my knowledge to you with a list of handy hints and tips that will guarantee to get you the girl. You’re welcome!

Number 1:

Casually mention what a good date you are whilst giving your most suave smile to knock ’em out. You can practise this smile in front of a mirror. Or in front of another version of yourself.

Thasmin: S11 Arachnids in the UK

Buckle up, folks, are you ready for this? I may get quite carried away with this episode for obvious reasons!

This is where it all kicks off big time.

I was absolutely sure that what is here is not accidental, but planned. Whilst we have heard from Mandip and Matt Strevens saying it was not planned, I’d be interested to hear from Chibnall himself. It just seems too on the nose. I struggle to believe Thasmin was accidental when this episode exists. After seeing EotD I was even more sure. Though I am sad that potentially Najia knows the truth about Yaz before she even realises herself.

UPDATE: Well thank you to Chris Chibnall for confirming that they DID see something and began to deliberately write it in, make it specific in the costumes (COUGH I was RIGHT about the shoes COUGH!)

Anyway, on we go. Find someone who… yadda yadda yadda

Yaz, you may think you are in the background, but we see you! She can’t help but smile at the Doctor. Also I think it is significant at this point that they are quietly telling us that Yaz doesn’t have friends. She was hoping so much that someone might have texted her. She was sad but unsurprised thinking she’d been gone days and had no messages. I really think this is a subtle but incredibly important thing to know about Yaz. I love how her character is not shoved in your face, no matter how much people complained that 4 in the TARDIS was too many and her character was not developed. Of course I would have loved more Yaz time, but her development is there and it is real.

Thasmin: S11 The Ghost Monument

This story follows immediately from the previous one, and Yaz is thrown into an adventure beyond her wildest imagination. The only thing she can cling onto is her new found trust of the Doctor, but she also holds her own and shows her resilience.

As a warning, this is apparently the episode where I got really rubbish screenshots! Enjoy!!

Waking up on Epzo’s spaceship, Yaz is simply trying to come to terms with what is happening, but the Doctor does need to grab her to pull her out of the way.

Yeah, try getting a screenshot of THAT!

Despite what is happening, Yaz can be relied on. For so long Yaz has wanted to be given more opportunities, more responsibilities in her job and got nothing. But the Doctor does. She recognises what Yaz can do, what she is capable of. Yaz doesn’t let her down, even in these extraordinary circumstances.

Thasmin: S11 The Woman Who Fell to Earth

At some point whilst Flux was airing, I decided that instead of boring everyone around me with my thoughts about Thasmin, I decided to begin The Great Thasmin Thesis. Basically I just went through every single episode getting screenshots and writing about every moment that to me is something to do with Thasmin.

I wrote quite a lot!

I wish I could channel this energy, commitment and motivation into my work.

Anyway, it seems a shame for it to sit on my hard drive, so I will edit it and post it here, bit by bit.

Welcome to part 1!

Yaz’s Shoes in Every Episode: Series 13 (and specials)

I will include the specials here, too, though this does mean I will need to update it post the centenary special (if I am still capable of coherent thought at that point. This is looking unlikely at the moment.)

Anyway, I bloody loved Flux, and it also yields some fairly decent shoe shots, so it’s a win all round. Ready? No! Me neither, I love not being ready!

The Halloween Apocalypse

I mentioned those great shoe shots, right? We get a very nice one of Yaz’s boots in the TARDIS which I am very grateful for, thank you very much everyone involved. We’ve had a step up since the brown Doc Martens Chelsea boots, and now we have the FUR-LINED brown Doc Martens Chelsea boots! Fancy!

Look at that! We deserve that kind of shot in every episode, but as it is, this one will do nicely, thank you very much.
